The Richmond Dental Centre works Old Town Toronto, between Corktown and the Distillery District, and inside its group of affiliated offices it holds one particular job: the periodontal specialist practises here. Dr. Michael Landzberg treats referred gum-disease and implant cases from here and from each of the sister clinics, so gums that have gone beyond what a hygienist can manage stay in the same chart rather than crossing the city.

Treatments offered

Fillings, crowns and bridges, root canals, dentures. Periodontal care runs from scaling and root planing through root surface debridement to surgery for advanced disease, plus implant placement, maintenance and repair. Oral surgery is done on site, impacted wisdom teeth included. Cosmetic work covers veneers, bonding and whitening. Children’s exams, oral cancer screening and a jaw-joint check for clicking and night grinding round out the standard workup.

The first visit

New patients begin with a comprehensive oral exam of about an hour: a full record of soft and hard tissue findings, radiographs and photographs, then a written plan naming what is needed and in what order. Digital radiography drops radiation exposure by close to eighty percent against film and shows the image in seconds. Intraoral cameras, a paperless chart and screens above the chairs complete the setup.

The team

Dr. Parshin Edraki (general practice residency, Temple University) built her practice around easing dental anxiety and explaining what is happening in a patient’s own mouth. Dr. Aisha Hashmani (University of Toronto) also works with anxious patients, a master’s in speech-language pathology behind that interest. Dr. Katherine Park (Western, 2018) leans toward aesthetic dentistry, Dr. Christina Zografos graduated with honours from Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry, and Dr. Kiara-Lee Moses trained at Nova Southeastern in Florida. Hygiene is run by Tenzin Nyidon and Dolly Mehta.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be seen the same day in an emergency? The centre aims to fit emergencies in the same day, often within an hour of the call; patients of record can reach a dentist on the emergency line.

Does the new patient exam include a cleaning? No. The dentist’s exam and the hygienist’s cleaning are separate appointments; back to back they run about two hours.

Can I bring radiographs from my previous dentist? Yes, please do — though images older than about nine months may no longer show the bone, so new ones may be taken.

Do I need a referral for gum treatment? No. The periodontal specialist works in-house, so the referral is internal.
