A biological practice that reads a filling before replacing it

Dr. David Nguy took over a long-standing downtown office from retiring dentist Richard Speers in 2019, renamed it after Ayn Rand’s novel and kept it independent and Canadian-owned: no chain head office sets the plan. The autonomy shows in the clinical line — metal-free materials wherever they hold up, no drill while a lesion can still be arrested, and old amalgam removed on the merits of each filling. In 2025 it moved into a purpose-built suite on the Bloor-Yonge subway interchange.

Treatments

SMART amalgam removal follows the IAOMT protocol: rubber dam, high-volume suction, sectioning and air filtration to hold down mercury vapour. Around it sit ozone therapy, OraVital BiofilmDNA testing that names the bacteria behind bleeding gums or bad breath, and silver diamine fluoride and Icon infiltration, which arrest early decay. Implants come in metal-free zirconia as well as titanium, with PRF grafts spun from the patient’s own blood. Also emergency care, endodontics with bioceramic sealers, aligners, zirconia crowns, veneers and dentures.

Technology

CBCT is on site, so implant planning, wisdom teeth and awkward canal anatomy are read in three dimensions in-house. Implants go in under computer-guided surgery, on a guide built from that scan and an intraoral 3D scan that replaces putty. Implant work leans on Neodent Grand Morse and BioHorizons Laser-Lok systems and Hiossen crestal sinus lifts, and chips are rebuilt with shade-matching Tokuyama Omnichroma composite. Nitrous oxide and oral sedation are available for anxious patients.

The team

Dr. Nguy, DDS, is a University of Toronto graduate, a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and SMART-certified through the IAOMT. He works in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, and the site carries a full Chinese-language section. Dr. Mariam Tutarashvili leads orthodontics with a postgraduate diploma from Georgia and practice across Canada, Georgia and Russia; she sees patients in Russian and Georgian.

Frequently asked questions

Do all my amalgam fillings need replacing? No: each one is examined first, and only those that warrant it come out.

Are implants available without metal? Yes, zirconia ceramic implants are offered alongside conventional titanium.

Will I be sent elsewhere for a CBCT scan? No, the scanner is in the clinic.
