A hospital-trained generalist, so the hard cases stay in the room

Most family practices hand the awkward work onward: an impacted wisdom tooth, a crown that needs the gum reshaped first, a treated canal that failed and needs the root tip removed. This office keeps it. Dr. Andy Choi, who owns the practice, took his dental degree at New York University and then spent a year in a general practice residency at a Queens hospital, where surgical extraction, implant placement, crown lengthening and endodontic surgery were daily rotations rather than referral letters. He brought that scope back to a ground-floor office in the condo district built on the old Fort York lands.

Treatments

Family and preventive: exams from the first baby tooth on, hygiene with scaling and polishing, fluoride, children’s sealants, a standalone halitosis program. Restorative: tooth-coloured fillings, crowns and bridges, root canal therapy, dentures. Surgical: simple and surgical extractions, wisdom teeth, gum surgery, crown lengthening, implants placed and restored on one chart. Cosmetic: porcelain veneers, bonding, whitening. Aligner cases run on Invisalign, which Dr. Choi is certified to plan at Gold Plus level. Swelling, a knocked-out tooth or a fractured cusp is triaged the day you call.

The bench around him

Three associates share the book, all University of Toronto graduates licensed by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. Dr. Lisa (Yue) Guan takes children and adolescents and calls her chair judgement-free. Dr. June (Hui Jun) Guo works in fluent Mandarin and Cantonese; Dr. Tiffany (Wen Qin) Yu speaks Mandarin. The unhurried pace is what patients write about most — one, an autistic adult, described being allowed to set the speed of the appointment rather than be moved through it.

Comfort and paperwork

Ground floor, step-free, parking at the door, evening and Saturday chairs. Claims are filed with insurers electronically and paid to the clinic directly, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan is accepted.
